A Staple Street Drink in Cambodia
If you're visiting Cambodia and exploring local street food, one drink you'll quickly notice is sugar cane juice. Sold from carts across every town and city, this sweet, refreshing drink is made fresh by pressing raw sugar cane stalks right in front of you. It's cheap, delicious, and perfect for cooling down after a long walk in the sun.
How It’s Made
The process is simple and fun to watch. Vendors run thick stalks of sugar cane through a metal press, extracting the juice, which is usually served over ice and sometimes with a splash of lime. It’s completely natural and one of the most hydrating street foods in Cambodia.
How much is it?
You can find it almost everywhere in the country. But prices can be a bit different from places. If you buy the one on the cart or along the street, each sugarcane juice cup can cost about 30 to 50 cents. This is what we normally spend for locals. However, if you can have them in a restaurant, it can cost up to $1 or more depending on how fancy that restaurant is. We can almost guarantee that they taste the same.
Where to Find It
You’ll find sugar cane carts almost everywhere — from the buzzing streets of Phnom Penh to smaller towns like Kampot or Siem Reap. It's a go-to refreshment for locals and a great way for travelers to experience Cambodian street culture. If you’re looking for authentic things to do in Cambodia, ordering sugar cane juice from a roadside vendor is a small but meaningful interaction with everyday life here.
